HUGH COONEY STORIES

With a passion for Irish folklore and mythology Hugh took a tongue in cheek look at his role in society. Where did he fit in? Where would he have fit in, in an ancient irish society? Perhaps as a seanachai? A story teller and a keeper of old knowledge.

After cutting his teeth as a story teller in the national leprechaun museum and 6 years as a storyteller in London he returned to Ireland wearing and Arain jumper and a shillelagh under his arm and a twinkle in his eye.

A tongue in cheek flight in the face of paddy whackery ‘Hugh Cooney Stories’ is mix of old a new, drawing on familiar old tales and the stories of now, Hugh asks you to join him by the fireside  as he regales of farmers with Casio watches and post Celtic tiger repo men. After a sold out run at The Project Arts Centre in Nov 2019. An all Ireland tour had to be cancelled due to the current crisis, we are currently looking at potential dates for 2021.

The project was covered by RTE Lyric FM's Culture Files listen here
